Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

Your loved one with Alzheimer's or another dementia disease will experience it differently than any other person. Symptoms and progression are as individual as they are. Our caregivers tailor activities and care to your family member's individual needs, allowing care for your loved one at home. Familiar surroundings can be less disruptive, and routines result in reduced confusion.

Activities of Daily Living

Absolutely Able Home Care has caregivers who are patient and understand the importance of routine and allowing your loved one to participate in activities of daily living to the best of their ability. We encourage them to choose their own clothes to wear and foods they would like to eat for as long as they are able, assisting as needed.

Safety

In addition to confusion, dementia impairs judgment and problem-solving skills, increasing a person's risk of injury. At Absolutely Able Home Care our caregivers help to keep your loved one safe by working to prevent falls by reducing clutter. We install grab bars as needed and remove loose rugs. We often use locks as needed to keep potential dangers away from your loved one such as medicines and cleaning supplies. To prevent burns we check water temperatures and supervise your loved one to keep them away from the stove, matches and lighters as necessary.

24-Hour Care in Simi Valley, CA

Live-In Care

With live-in care, one caregiver is in the home daily for a 24-hour period. One caregiver can be available for a maximum of four to five days per week depending on the location.

For the other days, a different caregiver will be in the home. In the 24-hour period, a 4-hour break is given to the daytime caregiver.

For a live-in shift, the caregiver is allowed an 8-hour sleeping break and a sleeping bed and room must be provided for this caregiver. Live-in care is billed at a flat rate per day.

Which Option in Right For You or Your Loved One?

There are many reasons why a family might implement 24-hour care, either for short-term needs or long-term needs. Talk to us about your current situation. We can set up a plan of care that meets everyone’s needs!

Absolutely Able Home Care provides outstanding in-home care for seniors and for all people, regardless of age or medical condition. Our experienced caregivers provide a wealth of services and are extremely friendly and compassionate.

24-Hour Care

Around-the-clock care can be “hourly care” or “live-in care”. Depending on you or your loved one’s night-time needs, one of these options might be a better fit.

Hourly Care

For continuity of care, we strive to provide the same caregiver “team” for the full 24-hour rotation.  Consistency in the schedule is always our goal in order to provide the best care possible as we learn your loved one’s personality and needs.

There is no sleeping break given to a caregiver during a 12-hour visit.

24-hour care is billed at an hourly rate. The overnight visit is billed at a flat rate if it is a sleeping overnight (requirements must be met for this to apply) and hourly rate if it is an awake overnight (most clients have awake overnights).

Why Do Families Use 24-Hour Care for a Senior?

  • Alzheimer’s disease or dementia causes the person to be up at night, sleeping less.
  • The client wanders at night.
  • The client is more confused at night – sometimes frightened.
  • The client has had many night-time falls when headed to the bathroom.
  • The family caregiver works full-time and needs to sleep at night.
  • The client just feels more secure knowing someone is available all night for trips to the bathroom.
  • The client is recovering from surgery or just arrived home from the hospital and temporarily needs extra night-time care.

Hospice and Respite Support

Do you have a loved one on hospice and need more help in the home than what hospice provides?

Many families wish they would have extra support and respite care on top of hospice coming in a few times per week.

At Absolutely Able Home Care, we regularly team up with hospice to provide care for your loved one and fill in the gaps when hospice isn’t there, so that you can focus on what really matters: time well spent.

Patient and Family Caregiver Needs During End-of-Life Care:

Practical care and assistance. Perhaps your loved one can no longer talk, sit, walk, eat, or make sense of the world. Routine activities, including bathing, feeding, toileting, dressing, and turning may require total support and increased physical strength on the part of the caregiver. These tasks can be supported by personal care assistants, a hospice team, or physician-ordered nursing services.

Comfort and dignity. Even if the patient’s cognitive and memory functions are depleted, their capacity to feel frightened or at peace, loved or lonely, and sad or secure remains. Regardless of location—home, hospital, hospice facility—the most helpful interventions are those which ease discomfort and provide meaningful connections to family and loved ones.

Respite Care. Respite care can give you and your family a break from the intensity of end-of-life caregiving. It may be simply a case of having a hospice volunteer sit with the patient for a few hours so you can meet friends for coffee or watch a movie, or it could involve the patient having a brief inpatient stay in a hospice facility.

Grief support. Anticipating your loved one’s death can produce reactions from relief to sadness to feeling numb. Consulting bereavement specialists or spiritual advisers before your loved one’s death can help you and your family prepare for the coming loss.

Absolutely Able Home Care provides outstanding in-home care for seniors and for all people, regardless of age or medical condition. Our experienced caregivers provide a wealth of services and are extremely friendly and compassionate.

Cancer Care at Home

Many cancer patients find immense benefit in hiring home care services to help them around the house.

Consider Home Care Support when every day tasks become challenging. Oncology patients often benefit from these services:

  • Personal: Bathing, dressing, and moving around
  • Emotional: Companionship, conversations, and personal support
  • Housekeeping: Cleaning, laundry, errands, shopping, and meal prep

After surgery or during chemotherapy or radiation treatments, our caregivers can provide companionship, run errands, and alert other medical professionals if assistance is needed. They also enable you or your other family members to go home and rest, knowing your loved one won’t be alone.

Our cancer care program can make the transition home easier and more comfortable.
